Who can sponsor Healthcare Freeware?

There are few restrictions on who can sponsor Healthcare Freeware. We welcome software developers and distributors, academic institutions, and other organizations related to healthcare software. However, sponsorship is open to just about anyone who has an interest in helping us keep this site free to the public. We do reserve the right to exclude those who offer products or services that we feel might be offensive to some, or incompatible/inconsistent with the theme of this site.

Why should I sponsor Healthcare Freeware?

Virtually every person who visits Healthcare Freeware is in the market for healthcare software. You're not likely to find another vehicle anywhere that can target your prospective audience as well.

Won't I lose customers to one of the free products or services?

According to Marc Andreessen, founder of Netscape, his experience has shown that companies want to pay for software. In an interview with Smithsonian magazine, he pointed out that "free software is usually more expensive in the long run for companies to use." The decision makers might be curious about freeware, but in the end, they select commercial products that offer the security of a technical support staff that stands behind the product. Furthermore, while the free products and services on Healthcare Freeware are interesting and valuable, they probably can't, and don't even try to compete with your software or service. Most are highly specialized tools that offer a fairly narrow range of capabilities. Others are novelty items designed for anyone with an interest in healthcare topics. Our visitors who need a more comprehensive, user-friendly product are going to figure that out. And when they do, they are going to turn to our sponsors for a more complete solution.

What are the different levels of sponsorship?

We now offer four different options for telling visitors about your product or service:

Product/Service Listing. The most basic, and least expensive type of sponsorship is a 50-word description of your product or service, with a hot link to your website and demo (if applicable), on one of the topic pages. Product Listings are displayed at the bottom of the topic page, following the list of freeware, on a first-come, first-served hierarchy. In addition, Site Sponsors always have top billing within the topics they select, followed by Category Sponsors, Topic Sponsors, then Product Listings. [Note: All sponsors must sign up for at least one Product Listing. All Product Listings will also appear on the commercial software page and we'll add a link to your website on the Friends of Healthcare Freeware links page.]

Site Sponsorship. This includes a 125 x 125 pixel ad (10Kb maximum) with a hot link to your web site, in either the left or right column of the main page. The placement of your graphic will be first come, first served, beginning at the top of the left-hand column. To ensure that each Site Sponsor receives maximum visibility, we currently have a limit of eight Site Sponsors. Once we reach that limit, you can be placed on the waiting list for Site Sponsorship by becoming a Category Sponsor (see below).
Category Sponsorship. This includes a 125 x 125 pixel ad (10k maximum) with a hot link to your web site, in the right-hand column of the category page of your choice. The placement of your graphic will be first come, first served, beginning at the top of the page. Category Sponsor are automatically placed on the waiting list for Site Sponsorship whenever we have reached our limit of eight Site Sponsors. When a new Site Sponsor position opens, Category Sponsors will be given the first opportunity to move up, based on seniority.
Topic Sponsorship. This includes a 125 x 125 pixel ad (10k maximum) with a hot link to your web site, on the topic (freeware list) page of your choice. The placement of your graphic is also first come, first served, except that Site Sponsors, followed by Category Sponsors, who also request a graphic on a topic page will always have priority over Topic Sponsors.

We will also consider other, tailored arrangements. So if you have an idea, please give us a call or send an e-mail message.
